Eight Ways Men Could Remove Hair Without a Laser, but Shouldn’t

willie-nelson-laser-hair-removal-men-dallas

  1. Pluck – We’ve all played this game you can’t win. You pull out those rusty tweezers packed away deep in the medicine cabinet. You can’t ever get the right angle, but when you do it’s not tears of joy streaming from your eyes down your face, it’s tears of pain.
  2. Burn – Hair can be burned off using a common cigarette lighter. The problem is it smells and you could light your flesh on fire. Unless you’re doing this on a dare with a large payoff, this isn’t the most advisable way to get rid of unwanted hair.
  3. Yank – You can try pulling those stray nose hairs out by using your index finger and thumb as human tweezers. It’s the same result as metal tweezers, you’ll cry like a baby and you’ll have noone to blame but yourself.
  4. Boil – Hair will come out in boiling water as evidenced by the boiling of the wild boar for those summer Hawaiian luals, unfortunately your skin might melt off too, but the hair will be gone.
  5. Shave – The old fashioned way which never goes away. You’ll inevitably get ingrown hairs and razor bumps. I’ll admit there is something mantastic about the ritual or process of lathering up the cream and the art of shaving where your sideburns are lined up just right. Do you get the same feeling shaving your back? Or having your wide or girlfriend do it? Yeah, me either. Fortunately, I haven’t had to do it for the last five years because of laser hair removal.
  6. Cream – There are certain creams which cause skin to release their grasp at the follicle level. According to Wired Magazine, this is how Nair, a popular hair removal cream works: “a sulfur-hydrogen atom group gives thiols their sharp scent. They eat into keratin (a skin and hair protein), which is what makes actual skunk spray (and Nair) lock onto human flesh and fuzz. If the process stopped there, the result would be a home perm — weakened hairs can be easily shaped into curls.” Do you want sulfur eating your keratin?
  7. Pills – According to eHow.com, one side effect of taking estrogen pills is a loss of facial hair. This would typically only be taken by men wanting to become women, although they are prescribed for other reasons such as prostate cancer prevention and treatment.
  8. Shock – Although electrolysis works on both light dark hair, according to About.com “the pain from electrolysis is greater than laser and it may feel like 20 pricks to your one for laser hair removal.”

Do yourself a favor and go with the laser over all these other methods. Hair Removal for Men in Five Unusual Places

hair-removal-for-men-face-nose

Did you know, extra hair in unusual places has been linked to having higher than average testosterone in men?  Scalp baldness has been linked as well. Interesting little joke Mother Nature plays on us men; we can grow hair everywhere, but where we want it to grow.  If you have hair or have had hair in any of these places, you’re not alone. To be honest with you, these areas for hair removal on men are not that unusual, they are actually quite common. They are typically kept quite because men don’t feel they are acceptable areas even when joking with our buddies, and may feel embarrassed.  Seeing men come in day in and day out to get laser hair removal in our Dallas office, I can assure you, these are quite ordinary occurrences.

1. Hair on men’s cheeks- After shaving for ten-to-fifteen years, some men will start seeing a few, to a dozen, dark hairs pop up a little too far outside their beard line. They could appear in the middle of the face, or on high check bones. The girlfriend or wife might even notice on a no shave weekend and decide to start plucking away. Some men have decided to save themselves from this torture and get these pesky hairs removed forever by laser. Yes, they are random, and yes, they are annoying (not the women, the hairs ). Eradicate these little buggers.

2. Hair on the top of men’s feet- Some men might start noticing this in junior high along with athlete’s foot and laser-hair-removal-for-men-dallas-legsunderarm growth. Ever since J.R.R. Tolkien books came out and cartoons and movies were made featuring Hobbits and creatures with hairy feet, other men have found something to poke fun of on their more testosterone-filled brethren. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard men tell me this in my office. How they thought it was cool at first, but their pals wouldn’t let up. After their mothers started in on it, this was the straw that broke the camel’s back. They started to shave or use hair removal cremes (the most popular brand name rhyming with “Flair”). I won’t lie to you, since there isn’t much fat on men’s feet, you should probably plan to come a little early and get the numbing gel. The laser stings just a little, but it’s worth it not to be called “Hobbit feet.”

3. Hair on the back of men’s necks – This area effects everyman who is not completely and naturally bald. This area is less unusual,  just more of an annoyance for those men who wear their hair very short. You’re at the barber and they ask if you’d like it squared or rounded. If you’re like me, you don’t really care, but you know you’re going to have some issues in the next few days with in-grown hairs if they aren’t too gentle when trimming back there. Forget about this, take care of those “Dracula teeth.”  It will save you money if you’re always going to the barber just to “get a neck trim.”

4. Hair on the top of men’s noses – This can be as frustrating as heck for some men. This hair may appear as blackhead pimples to others, but upon further examination, it’s tiny dark hairs. If you shave it, it could come back with a raging force, if you pluck it, it could possibly do the same. Get rid of these as soon as you see them. Get them lasered  in a package deal with other undesirable places and you’ll be glad you did.

5. Hair on men’s ears – This starts in your late 20s and early 30s and continues on with age.  These hairs start getting longer and longer, appearing not only in, but on top of the cartilage of your ears. Sometimes laser hair removal can help with this, sometimes it cannot. If the hairs are clear or blond,  it’s less likely hair removal will help because there is not enough hair melanin (which gives hair its color) for the laser to latch on and do its work.

8 Dallas Places to See & Be Seen this Summer

dallas-downtown-farmers-market-things-to-do-summer-2010Flickr: stuckincustoms

Hi. I’m Neil Lemons. I’m a late 20-something  adventurer, blogger, Law of Attractionist, mobile lifestyle enthusiast and Internet Journalist who often writes about fun things to do in Dallas and Texas travel. I’m a friend, happy ongoing client, and business affiliate of Jeff and Barbara over at Evanesque. Yes, I’m a straight guy, I live in Dallas, and I’ve had several great experiences there getting laser hair removal and relaxing and rejuvenating microdermabrasion and I’m not ashamed to admit this fact.  They offer a great service for men and women, young and old.

After spending five years in Dallas living as a young single adult in Dallas, and 10 years in the Metroplex, Jeff and Barbara asked me to share some info very specific to Dallas. Evanesque’s services are about looking and feeling good about yourself. Being confident in yourself and your appearance to others is what they sell, and this is highly important in life.

After reading several of the blog posts about celebrities, beauty news, and funny lists, I thought I would take a different angle making this post a little more personal by offering some great tips for Dallas-residents who want to see and be seen. When you’re young and single, or even if you are older and single, or married and active as a couple, meeting people, being social, networking, and making business connections is important and helps you get ahead in Dallas whether it be climbing the social or business ladder. Before you get out and mingle, you should consider getting a spray tan in Uptown or a 20-minute Express teeth whitening.

Cool Places & Things to Do in Dallas This Summer

If you’re wanting to leverage this city you need to be where the people are hanging out and being social. After living here for awhile, I’ve noticed the social and business elite in Dallas seem to gravitate to certain places around town. These places change from time to time, but there always seem to be those few cool places which never go out of style. I put together this list for those wanting to know “the place to be” in Dallas this summer.

  1. Park on Henderson – This new restaurant opened last summer and quickly became an overnight success with its 60s eclectic, minimalistic style, and delectable food and beverages ranging from dishes such as Bayou Gumbo Spicy Andouille, Okra & Shrimp, Seared Jumbo Sea Scallops, Gemelli Coconut Alfredo and Gari Vinaigrette, Horseradish Crusted Bone-In Ribeye.  Sit on the patio, drink a Mojito and have dinner at Park before playing 2-foot Jenga with your friends next door at Barcadia. Check out Park and make sure to make a reservation to avoid waiting at this cool Dallas restaurant.
  2. The Joule Hotel pool – The Joule is a historic hotel located in Downtown Dallas. Their pool is known as a hot spot for sexy folks. Look through one of the glass walls overlapping the edge of the building. hotel-joule-things-to-do-dallas-this-summer-2010
with an breathtaking view from the roof. There is the reason the national TV show The Deep End ( Gray’s Anatomy only with attorneys) had several night scenes filmed here which were supposed to be set in L.A.
  3. Gloria’s patio on Greenville Ave – Can anyone say Margarita? Gloria’s is a Tex-Mex restaurant that stands out not only for its complementary black bean dip with every meal, but packed patio and ability to attract Dallas elite like moths to a flame. With reasonable prices for most anything you would expect of the Tex-Mex flair, I highly suggest the beef fajita chimichanga covered in chili con queso.
  4. Poolside at The Village Country Club – A culmination of over 15 apartment complexes, since the 1970s The Village has been its own community with its own zip code. Every apartment complex has at least two or three pools, but there is one legendary pool which is “the place to be,” it’s the Olympic-sized pool behind the country club.  Few actually get in the pool, but there are plenty of beautiful people ages 20 -50  sitting beside the pool. Get there early, or you won’t get a chair. With a DJ, poolside bar, and often burgers being cooked on a grill, some have planted at the The Village and never left. You can get in free if you know someone who lives there, it’s five dollars otherwise, but worth the cost. Check out the photo gallery on The Village’s website.
  5. Javier’s – Straying away from the Tex-Mex concept, including tacos and enchiladas, Javier’s focuses on a more realistic image of what Mexico City dining is all about.  The low-lit dining room at Javier’s is replete with mounted game, large paintings, and hanging plants. One of only a handful of places in Dallas where you can still openly smoke a cigar because of their special central air venting, the city of Dallas has allowed them to bypass the restaurant and bar smoking ban which took place in April of last year. Check out their menu, and don’t worry, their cigar lounge is in a separate room from the restaurant.
  6. West Village – This is the restaurant row of Uptown Dallas. With Mi Cocina, Taco Diner , Cru, Social House, and the new Lemon Bar, there are plenty of choices for food, folks, and fun. Parking is free in the main garage, but get there early if you plan on going to happy hour or you will be parking on the roof. On Sundays and Saturdays hang out at Starbucks with your laptop and you’re sure to get a people-watching experience like none other in Dallas, not to mention the shopping opportunities.
  7. Primo’s on the patio – Located on McKinney Avenue on the “Main Street” of Uptown Dallas, you’ll see a packed patio of pretty people, and even locate celebrities like ex-hockey player, restaurateur, and entrepreneur Mike Modano, and Mavs basketball play Dirk Nowitzki.
  8. The Katy Trail - Runners, roller bladers, and dog walkers alike exercise on  this a 12-foot-wide concrete bike trail and an 8-foot-wide parallel, soft-surface running path, with several entrances and plazas linking the Trail to other area parks. It extends 3.5 miles from Airline Road to the American Airlines Center. Once completed, the bike and pedestrian path will link the Mockingbird DART station near SMU to the West End in downtown Dallas.  Take a joy ride on the Katy Trail.

Dallas Laser Hair Removal For Men- Back Hair – The Hairy Truth!

laser Hair Removal For Men in Dallas

Aesthetically speaking , hairy backs are way down the list of desired body features in our world.

  • Broad backs = good
  • Strong backs = good
  • Toned backs = good,
  • but Hairy Backs = Not so much…

Of course you can have your partner shave you every week or so, or you can live life assuring that no one ever sees your back, or you can remove the hair and get to work on the Strong, Toned & Broad part of the equation. Laser Hair Removal for the male back is a very popular and common treatment for guys that have unwanted hair in excess.

The process is very simple; Find a reputable Laser Hair Removal Specialist, with the most effective hair removal laser. The clear choice (in my opinion) is the Candela GentleLase Mini. It is both fast and effective. Then, plan to go through a series of 6-7 treatments at 6 week intervals. The 6 week interval is critical to the success of the process. Our hair grows in cycles and the 1st cycle of growth is the best opportunity to destroy the hair follicle. During the 1st phase (Anagen) the hair has its most color or melanin. The melanin is the trait that allows the laser to deliver maximum heat to the hair bulb in order to destroy it.

The pitfalls to treating the male back are these: Fairly expensive (Very large treatment area), easy to miss some spots as the laser operator must be very meticulous on an area this large.

The biggest caution we see is that guys forget to stay true to the process. i.e. they see the hair disappear after 1 treatment and assume the hair disappearance is permanent and that they won’t need all 6-7 treatments. They then get way off schedule and are surprised when their results are not what they had hoped for.

The good news- If you do go to a reputable operator with a good laser and laser technician and are steadfast about being treated every 6 weeks, the results are incredible and permanent.

8 Reasons to Get Your Unibrow Lasered

george-bush-unibrow-dallas-laser-hair

A unibrow, also known as monobrow is the the presence of abundant hair between the eyebrows, so that they seem to converge to form one uniform eyebrow.  After 15  or more years in modern American vocabulary, parody sites, pop references, and news citations,  unibrow was added to the Webster Dictionary in 2006.  In Western perception the unibrow may make a person seem ugly, fierce, grumpy, or overly serious, so much so that the unibrow has become something of a cliché in fiction, especially with cartoon characters or muppets. Although, many people disguise his/her would-be unibrow using painful and time consuming conventional and unconventional techniques, with the inexpensive tools and hair removal lasers of today, these methods are no longer needed.

  1. Avoid the pain of tweezing daily — Day in and day out, it never goes away. You tweez, pick, pull, cry. Why put yourself through this torture for the rest of your life? Remember those times when you forgot to bring your tweezers on vacation? You had to walk around on the beach with some strays waving at passersby.
  2. Save time in the morning - You have enough to worry about with styling the hair that’s on your head instead of taking the time to manage what’s between your eyes. Take that extra ten minutes of tweezing to sleep.  Studies show a 60 years of tweezing = a full week of your life. I just made that statistic up, but it sounds about right.
  3. Avoid the pink razor burn between your eyes – How embarrassing can it get? Once someone puts two and two together, they get one. You’re a closet unibrow concealer. There is no other explanation or excuse for pink between the eyes.
  4. Painful electrolysis of yesteryear is no longer needed – It’s not the 1880s anymore, hair removal has come a long way. It’s no longer painful and it no longer takes years of excruciating pain.
  5. Save money & relief from skin irritation on “instant hair removal” products – One popular product which rhymes with hair will remove your unibrow, but then you still have the irritation of harsh chemicals and your pores releasing the hair. Plus the spending adds up for products year after year after year.
  6. Waxing your unibrow only makes it grow back thicker – This is God’s joke on human hair removal, hair comes back with a raging force thicker, darker, and more heavily rooted than before.
  7. You’re not Frida Kahlo and it’s not cool anymore – Frida was a proud woman and artist. She depicted herself in several of her paintings as having a unibrow and pencil thin mustache. That was the 1940s and 50s and women’s rights and respect have come along way since then. Protests and bra burning are one thing, but the only thing you’ll accomplish by letting the brow fro go is a dateless saturday night.
  8. Avoid getting asked to speak at Star Trek Conventions – Ok so Spock doesn’t have a full unibrow, but he does have some other action going on up there that needs some attention.

The Truth About Spending Money on Looking Good…

Many people nowadays tend to get pressured to look good. In fact, in a recent research conducted by The Nielsen Company it was shown that almost all of US Consumers attest to the fact that the pressure to look good has never been so great. This burden done on these people, however, does not automatically translate to people buying or feeling obligated to purchase health and beauty products that do nothing but artificially cover up their feeling of not being too good-looking.

As a result, Americans, along with the majority of people across the globe, feel that buying beauty products does not really contribute to their need of feeling beautiful and attractive.

This, however, “doesnt necessarily mean that consumers are compelled to spend more on beauty products and treatments. It seems the older you get, the less you spend, as teens and consumers in their 20s spend more in this category, said Shuchi Sethi, VP of Nielsen Research Team.
