Dallas Women: Have You Ever Tried to Remove Hair on Your Own? What’s Your Funniest Story?

Do-It-Yourself Hair Removal

Funny Stories from the Do-It-Yourself Hair Removal File

Before I owned a medical spa that offers laser hair removal, I plucked, waxed, and used hair removal lotion. I thought I’d share with you some of my past experiences.

Plucking

About 10 years ago, I wanted to test my husband’s love for me SO I did what any wife would do. I requested that he pluck my eyebrows… Ladies, he did it. AND he did an awesome job. Only problem was, he didn’t want to do it all the time. Ladies, if you find a man that will pluck your eyebrows you have a keeper.

Have you ever plucked your eyebrows so much that you’ve had to draw them in? Fortunately, I’ve never had this problem. However, I see it all the time. Some ladies are pluck happy. Please what ever you do, do not draw your eyebrows back in so thick that you look like you used a Sharpie.

Hair Removal Lotions

I tried different hair removal lotions. I remember that they seem to work nicely on the face. It’s less painful than waxing your upper lip. Just make sure you don’t leave it on for too long. If you have sensitive skin like me, and leave the lotion on longer than you should, you’ll look like a tomato for a few days just where you removed the hair. My general rule is when it starts to burn it’s time to wash it off. Some products have a balm that you can apply afterwards to moisturize and calm your skin. These are helpful.

I tried hair removal lotions on my arms too. I remember that this never worked out too well for me. Since it’s a larger area and I didn’t apply the lotion evenly, I always seemed to miss sections and have patches of hair removed. Not the best look.

Waxing

Waxing seemed to work well for the arms. However, I wasn’t that coordinated to do it myself and was scared that it would hurt. I never pulled hard enough to remove the hair. This is another time when I would usually ask my husband to help.

I’m almost certain others can relate to these experiences. Have I missed something? Do you have a story? Share it with us! If you’re tired of plucking, waxing, and using lotion, visit Evanesque and let one of the specialists take care of your hair removal permanently.

Facts About Botox from a Dallas Botox Spa Owner

botox-dallas

ALL BOTOX INJECTIONS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL

More and more the general public is falling in love with the magic affects of Botox. There was a time Botox users were very secretive about there injections, today people are becoming much more open and actually passing along referrals.  But if you have not taken the Botox plunge yet, there are a few things worth considering.

How is it sold?
Botox is sold either by the number of units injected or by the area treated.  I believe the most fair way is by the unit. By the area is very vague and you may pay $199 for one area when in fact, if you paid by the unit, it may have only cost you $98 for that area.  This a fact, rarely  will a place  give you more units than what the $199 covers but they will give you less.

Dilution Ratio
A vile of Botox once opened must be properly mixed. The dilution protocol is 2.5ml of sterilized saline per vial which equates to 100 units of Botox. Take it a step further, imagine a business that dilutes each vial with 3ml of saline, now that vial suddenly contains 120 units of Botox in a more diluted, less effective form. The prescribed dilution rate will provide the best results that  last approximately 3-4 months. Sometimes when you see an advertisement for a really good deal, it’s quite possible that the dilution rate has been compromised and that your results will not last as long. (The saying is true….”You get what you pay for” )

The Injector Matters
Do your homework by asking friends where they go for Botox. Be sure you like the results on that person you are asking. Does it look natural?  There are places that will inject everyone with the same pattern or over inject, when really fewer units are needed. You should feel comfortable with your injector and be able to discuss your expectations. It is important that a trained and qualified injector administer your Botox. Be sure your injector is either a registered nurse, physician’s assistant or a doctor.  An esthetician should NOT be administering Botox.

Results
There is not a cream or serum out there that can give you the results of Botox. It is amazing and can take years off your face without taking away your expressions. Results from Botox will begin to take affect three days after your injections and typically take up to a full 10-12 days before your maximum results are achieved. If you are planning around a specific event you will want to keep this information in mind when scheduling your appointment. You can expect the results to last approximately 3-4 months. I always tell clients to budget for it quarterly. Staying consistent will actually lessen the amount you need over time because the muscle is already in a weakened state.

Bottom Line
Botox is here to stay. Start budgeting for it just like you do your hair color. You will love looking in the mirror at the younger, refreshed face looking back!

3 Reasons Dallas Women Choose Juvederm Over Facelifts

juvederm-dallas

Everyone knows smiling is sexy, but the lines it leaves on your face, not so much. You don’t have to invest in creams that don’t work or expensive, invasive surgery. Juvederm is the less painful remedy that doesn’t cost a fortune and actually works.
Juvederm is a quick, easy procedure that has almost instant results. A simple shot into your trouble areas can leave you looking years younger after just one visit. Smile or “parentheses” lines are those annoying lines that frame your mouth over the years.  Fortunately, you don’t need the wrinkles to prove you’re happy. Many people get vertical lines around his/her lips, due to natural muscle movements, but over time these wrinkles can leave your mouth looking droopy or even resemble a frown. With Juvederm, there’s no reason to tolerate those pesky wrinkles. Scared of jumping in? Don’t be! Here’s 3 great reasons Dallas women are choosing Juvederm over facelifts

1. Non-Invasive – Some procedures can leave you in pain for days, or worse, leave you out of commission completely. More invasive techniques cause major inflammation and can leave your face red, irritated, and greatly bruised. With Juvederm, there’s a small injection in to the wrinkle site. This may cause slight swelling or bruising, but only lasts a day or two.
2. Less Expensive– Facelifts and other surgeries can be very expensive. Juvederm is a great alternative to spending tons of money and can cost almost a fifth less than a going under the knife.
3. Great Results – With more and more people giving Juvederm a try, there’s no telling just how many people have done it, but there’s a good chance you know a few people who have. This is an easy way to wipe years off your face and get a glowing, younger look in no time.

Evanesque offers the facelift alternative in Dallas. Since 2004, their Uptown location has provided women and men with medical spa services including Botox, Juvederm, spray tanning, and other services.

Eight Ways Men Could Remove Hair Without a Laser, but Shouldn’t

willie-nelson-laser-hair-removal-men-dallas

  1. Pluck – We’ve all played this game you can’t win. You pull out those rusty tweezers packed away deep in the medicine cabinet. You can’t ever get the right angle, but when you do it’s not tears of joy streaming from your eyes down your face, it’s tears of pain.
  2. Burn – Hair can be burned off using a common cigarette lighter. The problem is it smells and you could light your flesh on fire. Unless you’re doing this on a dare with a large payoff, this isn’t the most advisable way to get rid of unwanted hair.
  3. Yank – You can try pulling those stray nose hairs out by using your index finger and thumb as human tweezers. It’s the same result as metal tweezers, you’ll cry like a baby and you’ll have noone to blame but yourself.
  4. Boil – Hair will come out in boiling water as evidenced by the boiling of the wild boar for those summer Hawaiian luals, unfortunately your skin might melt off too, but the hair will be gone.
  5. Shave – The old fashioned way which never goes away. You’ll inevitably get ingrown hairs and razor bumps. I’ll admit there is something mantastic about the ritual or process of lathering up the cream and the art of shaving where your sideburns are lined up just right. Do you get the same feeling shaving your back? Or having your spouse or girlfriend do it for you? Yeah, me either. Fortunately, I haven’t had to do it for the last five years because of laser hair removal.
  6. Cream – There are certain creams which cause skin to release their grasp at the follicle level. According to Wired Magazine, this is how Nair, a popular hair removal cream works: “a sulfur-hydrogen atom group gives thiols their sharp scent. They eat into keratin (a skin and hair protein), which is what makes actual skunk spray (and Nair) lock onto human flesh and fuzz. If the process stopped there, the result would be a home perm — weakened hairs can be easily shaped into curls.” Do you want sulfur eating your keratin?
  7. Pills – According to eHow.com, one side effect of taking estrogen pills is a loss of facial hair. This would typically only be taken by men wanting to become women, although they are prescribed for other reasons such as prostate cancer prevention and treatment.
  8. Shock – Although electrolysis works on both light dark hair, according to About.com “the pain from electrolysis is greater than laser and it may feel like 20 pricks to your one for laser hair removal.”

Do yourself a favor and go with the laser over all these other methods. US Magazine’s online site reported that Desperate Housewives star Terri Hatcher created a Facebook album titled “Oy with the Botox,” wrinkling her brow to prove she’s now filler-free.

During the ET interview, the Desperate Housewives star also admitted that she was surprised by how quickly her pics were dispersed online. “Honestly, I am so behind the game on Facebook!”
“But, to be clear, she explained, “It’s not about Botox to me…I don’t have any judgement about doing Botox…I’ve done Botox, I may do it again — I don’t know. It’s not the point.”
